Member Spotlight: Amaury Hernandez, PhD.
This article is part of a series aimed to know the wizards behind Point Labs.
Hi Amaury! Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I began my professional career as a programmer when I was 17 years old (2006–2012), as a web developer. From 2012 to 2019 I dedicated most of my time to science, in the field of machine learning, designing algorithms for the forecasting of financial markets. In 2017 I joined the cryptosphere by focusing on the design of a programming language for the creation of smart contracts (similar in purpose to Solidity) and general-purpose programming. My dream is to decentralize science: use blockchain technology to publish results that cannot be altered, store experiments that can be reproduced by everyone in a transparent way, and finally see an evolution in process of publishing science (we’re publishing papers almost the same way as we have been doing it in the previous 100 years or so). Point Network is the natural step towards a more efficient world of science.
What’s your favorite food?
Whatever my wife cooks, but specifically her lasagna.
What music do you like hearing when coding?
Repetitive music. My record is listening to a lo-fi loop for 13 hours in a single day. The change in lyrics, tones, etc. can distract you. No bueno.
I also listen to video game music to feel like I’m killing those code bugs in style.

What’s a fun fact about you?
Ok, I have a couple I think the community will enjoy:
- I have some manias. During videoconferences, you’ll frequently see me cleaning up my hands with baby wipes. I can’t stand the sensation of dirt or grease in my hands. I usually also clean my face with baby wipes, so I frequently smell like a baby, tee-hee.
- I use Emacs (I mean, Serge and Den made fun of me because of that. Does that count?). I’ve realized I love non-popular technologies/techniques/processes: Emacs, Lisp (programming language), Dvorak keyboard layout, so I’m like a hipster programmer.
- I love video games, but I’m the kind of gamer that plays the same game for decades apparently. Diablo 2 since 2001, a text-based game (yeah, no graphics, baby) since 2008, Ragnarok Online since 2003.
What’s your favorite tech stack?
Python is the wife that society accepts, but Lisp is the fervent lover that must be kept as a secret because nobody understands our love ❤
What do you like the most about working at Point?
THE TEAM! Serge has this passion for crypto that charmed me since day 1. Then I joined the first virtual meeting and BOOM everyone in the team wants to fight for the ideals of Point Network. You can even smell the passion; smells like strawberry and corn dogs.
What do you think about the future of web3?
It’s a natural step, and it can’t be stopped, just like how the internet ended up dominating the world, or how everyone now uses cell phones. It just needs to be engineered and planned correctly, or we will end up with fake centralization and broken dreams.
Thank you, Amaury for sharing your time with us!
Stay tuned for the next edition,
See you soon,
